Villa De Nordis Open-Air Cinema

The traveling Kino Soča-Isonzo Cinema, which connects film venues in the cross-border Slovenian-Italian space, will direct its gaze to the big screen on the border line between Nova Gorica and Gorizia on August 8 at 21.00 The Vila De Nordis open-air cinema will come to life for the first time in a unique location, where the border suddenly turns 90 degrees around the secluded villa. The musical Gloria! will be shown, a film directed by Margherita Vicario, which was awarded the Silver Film Ribbon Award (Nastro d'Argento) for the best soundtrack, which is awarded annually in Italy by the Board of Film Journalists.

At the end of the Second World War, the villa was owned by Countess Liduška de Nordis Hornik, who lived between Gorizia and Africa, where she took care of her plantations. There are mysterious stories about how her knowledge made it possible for her birthplace to remain on Italian territory. It is not known whether the pushback was made possible by influential friends or legendary parties. Maybe her friend Sarah Churchill, the daughter of a British statesman, who was several times at these famous parties in Gorizia, helped. In any case, the countess was one of the women who marked this place and its history, even if we do not find her name in the school textbooks.

The film Gloria! also deals with the topic of overlooked women in history, in which we follow Teresa, who works as a maid in a Catholic music institution for girls at the end of the 18th century. With the upcoming visit of the newly enthroned Pope Pius VII. chaos reigns. While the choirmaster tries to create a new song to mark this important visit, Teresa discovers a newly invented musical instrument in the pantry - the piano. Together with a group of female musicians, she will create the musical excess of the century.

The actress from the film, Anita Kravos from Gorizia, will be with us at the screening. She wrote the following in greeting to the event: "We shot the last scene of the film in the church on Semeniška Street in Gorizia, which was built in the 14th century. Since the film is set in the year 1700, the location was right.''

The event will take place at Villa De Nordis, via degli Scogli 70, Gorizia, starting at 21.00.

In case of bad weather, the screening will take place the following day, August 9, 2024.

Before the screening, at 19.00, there will be a guided tour of the villa, for which advance registration is required, as the number of places is limited. The registration fee is 10 euros.

The event is prepared in collaboration with Kinoatelje and Vila De Nordis and the festivals Tribute to a Vision and Le giornate della luce from Spilimberg.
