Special event - In memoriam Béla Tarr

On March 5, 2026, in Kinemax in Gorizia, we will pay tribute to Béla Tarr, who left us this year, one of the most singular voices in contemporary world cinema. Last year, Kinoatelje had intended to present him with the Darko Bratina Award, but illness prevented him from joining us. PARTICIPARION FORM.
The evening is part of the GO! STUDIO program and celebrates Tarr’s cinematic vision while situating it within the broader framework of the project, which empowers young filmmakers and cultural practitioners through learning by doing across the entire life cycle of a film, from production to festival presentation, critical reflection, and mentorship.
The day will start at 5 pm at BorGO Cinema in Gorizia in presence of the special guest Sunčica Fradelić, co-founder of film.factory. Sunčica will give insight on the main idea, structure, program and operational aspects of film.factory, explaining basic principles behind it and the force that moved them forward, focusing on practical aspects and day to day management, following discussion with participants of the event.

Béla Tarr - motivation and biography
The event will go on at 8 pm in collaboration with Palazzo del Cinema, at the Kinemax cinema with the contributions from Pedro Costa, Lav Diaz, Amos Gitai, Amir Naderi, Gregor Božič, Alessandro Comodin, and others. The evening will be introduced by Donatello Fumarola and Mateja Zorn of the cross-border film festival Tribute to a Vision, who will guide the audience through the significance of Tarr’s work and its impact on contemporary cinema. The commemorative evening takes place in collaboration with the Slovene cinematheque.

The evening will be followed by the screening of The Turin Horse (A Torinói ló, Hungary 2011, 156’, black-and-white), directed by Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky, a film that extends and deepens the persistence and humanism of the vision of that great man who is Béla Tarr. This hommage not only honors Tarr’s legacy but also reinforces the mission of GO! STUDIO to create meaningful opportunities for young creators in the cross-border region of Nova Gorica–Gorizia, allowing them to develop their potential within a structured, hands-on educational environment.
