Masterclass with Gregor Božič in Spilimbergo

The film festival Le Giornate della Luce (The Days of Light Festival) in Spilimbergo continues its programming focus on cinematographers as key co-authors of cinematic language. This year’s edition will take place from 6 to 14 June.

The cross-border film festival Tribute to a Vision once again joins the programme with a masterclass, fostering dialogue on cinematography, visual language and authorship in contemporary cinema through the connection between the Slovenian and Italian film spaces.

On 14 June 2026, the masterclass in Spilimbergo will be led by Slovenian director and cinematographer Gregor Božič. He studied film directing and cinematography at The Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana and at The DFFB in Berlin and further specialised in contemporary visual arts at Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing. His work occupies a space where cinema intertwines with the observation of landscape, memory and the materiality of the world, in which the image is not merely a representation, but a trace of time.

His works have been presented at numerous international festivals, including Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Festival international de cinéma de Marseille, Camerimage, Goa, Tallinn, New York and Shanghai. Božič is also among this year’s recipients of the Slovene Prešeren Fund Award, awarded for three film projects through which he realised his distinctive and refined artistic vision. As director, cinematographer, co-screenwriter and co-editor, he created the short film Common Pear, which was presented at the Tribute to a Vision film festival and at the Silvan Furlan Open-air Cinema in Nova Gorica. As cinematographer, he also collaborated on films such as The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent by Nebojša Slijepčević, Fiume o morte! by Igor Bezinović, and Playing Men by Matjaž Ivanišin. Alongside filmmaking, he is also engaged in researching old fruit varieties and has launched a project for his own orchard conceived as a gene bank in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia.

His masterclass in Spilimbergo will therefore not merely present an author but will open up his holistic approach to cinema as a way of seeing the world — between image, landscape and memory, continually inscribed anew through cinematic light.
