Motivation

The film is masterfully crafted, combining attentive observation of reality with authorial narration. The absence of dialogue emphasizes the characteristic elements of film language, freeing image and sound from the slavery of words, allowing free contemplation of freedom and necessity in the face of the threatening presence of the border, which appears as an insurmountable obstacle but must be overcome. The author's social responsibility is evident throughout his entire oeuvre, confirming that a filmmaker, as a creator, has an irreplaceable role in the process of intercultural dialogue. We are pleased to award Khachatryan on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and in the year of new signs of thawing at the border between Armenia and Turkey.
