Karpo Godina

Motivation

Kinoatelje awards the 2012 Darko Bratina Award to filmmaker Karpo Godina for the completeness of his versatile authorial work as a director and cinematographer, as well as his pedagogical work in training new film generations. From his amateur beginnings to mature works, Karpo Godina's oeuvre is distinguished by stylistic sensitivity and daring experimentation, which the author upholds as inseparable values. He observes society in the same way, never separating the poetic levels from the political. This achieves a unique personal expression marked by both ironic distance and sincere compassion for the little man in a multicultural space. Karpo Godina's exceptional work thus contributes, first within Yugoslav cinematographies and later in Slovenian film, to shaping a critical and humanitarian awareness in which the effort for a free and plural society grows.
