Franco Giraldi

Motivation

Kinoatelje awards the 2011 Darko Bratina Award to director Franco Giraldi for his committed, sensitive, and convincing treatment of important themes of coexistence—thinking, feeling, and acting—that great history has often marginalized. This is especially true for the treatment of border themes, where Giraldi's border represents the mental landscape in which great history plays with the division of cultures and identities. However, through his film creation, the author convinces us that a better world is possible, as he does not flirt with regressive manifestations but constantly seeks what, despite differences, grounds society and perceives the echo of history in every human intimacy with psychological attentiveness. Franco Giraldi's work, spanning between film and television, maintains a privileged relationship with literature and also illuminates those authors who built their universal scope on local stories. Kinoatelje recognizes a great kinship in Franco Giraldi and therefore awards his life's work with affection and gratitude.
