lecture by Roisin Tapponi from the Habibi Collective
13. 10. 2019 at 17.00 - Mostovna, Nova Gorica
In a lecture entitled 'Mapping The Trajectories of Female Middle Eastern + North African Essay Film', ROISIN TAPPONI (1999) from the Habibi Collective will explore how language is plotted and mapped on the female body, the private domain, and the screen, proposing a haptic visuality that reconfigures political navigation in contemporary artistic practise and the essay film. The lecture will reference work by visual artists such as Mona Hatoum, Assia Djebar and Forough Farrokhzad, looking at how female MENA artists have invented new artistic strategies to mobilise the image in critical and creative ways. The lecture will be opened up to a conversation, and will include a poetry reading, with accompaniment of both still and moving images.
