Prisoners of War (Prigionieri della guerra)

Yervant Gianikian, Angela Ricci Lucchi, 1995, 64'

The opening chapter of the trilogy on the First World War is composed of film materials collected from the archives of the great empires that clashed, predominantly the Tsarist and Austro-Hungarian empires. The film draws inspiration from the diaries and letters of Tyrolean and Trentino soldiers who fought in the ranks of the Austro-Hungarian army. The compilation of these materials, through the analysis of original shots, seeks to highlight recurring elements that mark the march of the century and its end, particularly in the Balkans.
