Ples mask
Franci Slak, 1971, Yugoslavia (Slovenia), original medium: super 8 mm, 9'

A mysterious and playful group of masked dancers performs in front of a local church wearing gas masks, while in the background chimneys spew smoke into the sky. Are they dying or living? Is it the present or the future? This short experimental documentary, made by Franci Slak while still in high school, in many ways captured the spirit of the time. With its unique blend of psychedelic playfulness and dark dystopia, it shocked the Yugoslav film scene of the era.
